The old pencil tool was kinda pointless, well it was the same as the brush but with a "hard" stamp instead of soft shades. I just released a new version of the pencil that's aimed towards people that sketch and/or paint on a blank canvas. There are six different styles of fills to select from all a bit different and you can select the one you like to get the smoothest and best result.
If you are looking for the old pencil behavior there is now a setting on the brush tool called "Hard tip" that will match the previous pencil.
If you do create something stunning don't forget to share it on facebook or twitter.

Would it be possible with a pen tool that automatically recognize when a line is almost straight and straighten it out?
Also if I'm trying to paint 90 degree angles, the program might make them exact?
This will be great if I can use on my iPad btw.
@Jensplan
The iPad has a capacitive touch screen, therefore even the slightest contact of your electron-rich finger with the screen's glass is enough to activate the capacitive sensing system below. Doesn't work with inanimate objects/fingernails/gloved fingers. Handwriting recognition is therefore cumbersome.
oh man! when we get a GIF format?
thanks so much for your works
I'm pretty impressed with the quality of pixlr. It's much more functional than Photoshop in many aspects. All it needs now is the Pen tool and Layer Folders ;3

My First Picture with your new Pencil ^_^
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I love the new pencil tool! I've made some really neat pictures with it so far! I've always loved to draw, but I've never had money for any kinda Photoshop, this web site has really made my dream come true. All the features are just amazing! Thanks again! :)
ohhhh, I'd really love to see a pen tool in here, pretty pls
Preasure/sensitivity? I have the USD 5 Wacom A6 pen,.a really chap and good working hardware, good value! Soooo much more easy when compared to paint with a mouse..
But I did not find out how to make it react to how hard you press the brush or pencils, not working now in Pixlr, as far as I know. Maybe it can be added later? It would increase the feel a LOT.
Thank you guys for a fantastic tool!

Seems like no one has posted in awhile but I wanted to know if there was a way to make a simple straight line with any of the tools?
I have never used photoshop and I started out on pixlr but until now I have never needed to draw a straight line! Thanks for making such a great piece of work here! Pixlr has done me so many favors I can't thank you enough!!
I'm needing a straight line to make an edge as well. Good old microsoft paint had the straight line tool allowing you to connect dots.
Keep up the great work, Pixlr.
