It’s Christmas Day, at least in some parts of the world, and we wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who entered the Pixlr Holiday Photo Contest this year. We were humbled to see so much creativity displayed by the people who use our apps. Here’s a collage (made with Pixlr Express, of course) of the winning entries in this 12 Days of Xmas style contest:
We had winners from the United States, England, and Canada, but we also saw a few winners from India. Quite an international showing, which we absolutely love to see. Each winner got to choose their own prize, and the winners seem to have gravitated toward choosing a few standout prizes. Top-chosen prizes included CanvasPop canvases, the Bamboo Solar Charger, and the Mobi 16GB EyeFi WiFi card. Good prizes all.
The content of the entries was extremely varied. We kept it general in nature and asked people to submit whatever they thought was “holiday” in spirit. We saw all kinds of images of Christmas trees and ornaments, kids in Santa’s lap, holiday card-like compositions — all the things you might expect. But we also saw tons of great atmospheric and wintry scenes and plenty of completely off-the-wall and creative takes that we couldn’t have possibly imagined. And quite a few dogs and cat pics. This is the Internet after all, so that is to be expected — and is totally welcome. Woof! Meow!
All in all, our very creative customers made our holiday season a whole lot brighter. We loved watching the entries roll in every day of the contest, and we thank you for not just using Pixlr apps but for also saying so many nice things to us on all of the social networks. It makes us proud to be makers of this software when we see so many happy customers.
Didn’t win this time around? We’ll undoubtedly have another contest soon, so follow us here and there online to be notified when the next round of gift giving happens.
Thank you for using our apps to get creative this year, and please keep that creativity flowing in 2014. Happy Holidays, everyone!
We wrap up our 12-day Pixlr Holiday Photo Contest with a fun selfie from soimanotaku on Instagram. She’s a cosplayer, which pretty much makes for fun pictures any time of the year. We love her vibrantly colored wig surrounded by tinsel and snowflakes. We thought it was an appropriate last winner in this contest since this has been the Year of the Selfie. She chose the Mobi EyeFi 16GB WiFi card as her prize, which we’re shipping out on Santa’s sleigh to her home in Tennessee.
Thanks to all for joining us in this contest and have a great Christmas Eve!
Today’s Pixlr Holiday Photo Contest winner is really, really good at taking photos of ornaments. Erica submitted a number of entries in our contest, and they’re all great. We chose this one as the best of the bunch:
For her prize, Erica chose the Mobi EyeFi 16GB WiFi card, which we’re shipping to the not-so-snowy but just as festive state of Florida. Thanks for all the excellent shots of your tree, Erica!
We knew Erica deserved a prize, but it was actually difficult for our team to come to a conclusion about just which one of her photos we liked the best. So, we made a collage with some of our favorites:
We’re approaching the end of our contest. One more prize will be awarded tomorrow so submit your last-minute #pixlrholiday tagged entry in between those last-minute shopping trips.
Santa’s cookies? Or maybe just a holiday snack. It’s today’s winner in the #pixlrholiday Photo Contest.
Cathee shares a cute photo of these cookies arranged in a bit of a snowflake pattern, and it looks like she’s added a little snow with Pixlr Express. Those look like Gingerbread Oreo cookies to us. We love the simplicity and coziness of this photo. Feels like the holidays to us.
Cathee chose as her prize the Mobi 16GB Eye-Fi card, which we’re popping in the mail to Ontario, Canada where she’s located. Two more days of prizes to award, so get your entries in quickly!
Day 9 Contest Winner: a Tree That Really Makes an Impression
Have a very impressionistic Xmas! That’s what we thought when we saw this lovely take on a festive tree posted to our Pixlr on Flickr group. It’s been run through a few of the more artistic options in Pixlr Express, and we love it’s uniqueness. This image submitted by Priya Sharma from Pathankot, India is today’s winner in our Holiday Photo Contest.
For her prize, she chose the Bamboo Solar Charger from our contest site. This seems to be a hot item this season. It’s sold out in so many online shops, but we were able to dig one up and are sending it on its way.
We’re in the last few days of our contest, but there’s still a few more prizes to give away so keep tagging those photos #pixlrholiday if you want a chance to win.
This photo really says winter and holiday to us. Cold but also cozy, we love the treatment Julie (@LadyWarrington on Twitter) gives to this photo of herself and a niece. Julie has such a wonderful smile, and we love how her eye peeks out from beneath that furry background. Great atmospheric shot for today’s winning entry. Julie chose as her prize a CanvasPop custom print, and we’re sending a gift certificate along to the U.K. where she’s located.
We have four more days to go in our Holiday Photo Contest, so there’s still time for you to win. Tag your photos #pixlrholiday to enter. It’s that easy.
An angel and a tree. And just a hint of buttcrack. There’s no denying this entry is cute-as-all-get-out. It’s today’s winner in our Holiday Photo Contest. Submitted by melsplat on Instagram, We really love the blurred out tree in the background as much as all the other cute stuff going on here. It’s a winning photo, for sure.
She chose a 12x12 CanvasPop print as her gift from Pixlr, which is turning out to be one of the most popular of the prizes in our grab-bag of gifts. She takes stupendous photos, and we’re certain she’ll make something great.
Still 5 more days of prizes to go, so get your #pixlrholiday tagged photos submitted and maybe you can choose a prize.
Day 6 Contest Winner: Yash and His Bubbly Christmas Card
Another day, another winner in our Holiday Photo Contest. Today, we bring you a winning entry by Yash Wadhwani. He entered a few images, including this little piece of work he submitted to the contest via Twitter:
He got pretty creative with the tools in Pixlr Express to distort the text so that it looks like it’s seen through a bubble. Must have added and set in place each letter separately, too. For all that creativity we definitely want to give him a shout out. Well done, Yash!
Yash chose the very neat Nanoblocks Toy Camera as his prize, and we have that prize headed to him in India. That’s our second Indian-residing winner in this contest. We love to see our apps used all across the world.
This international holiday contest train is steaming forward until Christmas Day, so get your #pixlrholiday tagged photos in and maybe you can pick your own prize out of our grab-bag of gifts.
Day 5! We’re kicking into gear now. Almost halfway through the Pixlr Holiday Photo Contest. We have 12 days of gift giving to do, which means we have 7 more gifts to give away.
Today’s winner is a doozie. Heather shares a photo that is undeniably, unrelentingly cute. “Is it too late to be good?” the sign asks. Even Santa wouldn’t punish this kid, even if he’d been really naughty all year long.
Heather chose a CanvasPop canvas print for her prize, and we’ve sent it along her way. Thank you, Heather, for sharing some amazing photos with us. You’re very good at this! Check out her Instagram page for more gorgeous shots.
So easy to enter. Just tag your photos #pixlrholiday. Learn more at our contest site.
How pretty is this photo? It immediately grabbed our attention as an entry in the Pixlr Holiday Photo Contest. It’s entered via Twitter by Autumn Merica, a name that also jumped out at us. We’re thrilled that she shared this one with us.
If you’ve been following our contest, you know that each winner gets to choose the prize of their choice from our contest website. Autumn chose a CanvasPop print as her prize, which we think she’ll love. Great company, great canvas prints.
Thank you, Ms. Merica for your service to our contest! We’re giving away more prizes every day, so if you haven’t won yet, keep those photos rolling in.
Every letter in this banner is a household item that he posterized in Pixlr. We really value creativity, and this is pretty darn creative. He even included a bunch of other Pixlr Express stickers from sticker packs that go beyond our holiday pack. He’s covered just about every base in this holiday message. Nice job!
We’re sending along a prize of his choice, the Bamboo Solar Charger from Photojojo. They offer a way to make gift packages smell like freshly baked cookies, so look for a delicious smelling package to arrive at your home in Noida, Sahyog.
Inga shares a really snowy shot on Instagram that has a beautiful symmetry to it. She says it’s a snowy road photo is from her visit home last weekend. Trips home for the holiday can make for some great photo opportunities, and we’re thrilled she took the time to take such a nice photo and share it with us. A quick look at her other photos shows that she takes some pretty great photos.
Dariene shared an incredibly clever and fun photo with us on Twitter. It’s a self-portrait in the classic holiday mode — a festively lit and festooned tree, stockings hung with care on the mantle, gifts everywhere. But then she did something unique. She planted 8 gingerbread men throughout this scene using Pixlr Express’s new holiday stickers and asked us to find them.
So creative and fun. Thank you, Dariene, for taking our photo challenge and challenging us right back! So far, we’ve found 6 of the 8 gingerbread men. A few of those little guys are well hidden.
For her prize, Dariene chose the Bamboo Solar Charger from Photojojo. Little-known fact: Photojojo will let you add freshly baked cookie scent to your package for a buck more. Did we? Of course we did.
Make Holiday Cards with Downloadable Pixlr Editor Overlays
We’re always on the lookout for bloggers who make stuff with Pixlr apps. One of our favorite finds this week while surfing around is this great blog post from the Pepper Design Blog, $.13 Christmas Cards (and Downloads). Morgan, the author, show you how to create your own holiday cards using Pixlr Editor. But what really makes it special is that she provides downloadable files that you can use as overlays in Pixlr Editor. You can simply open up these files in Pixlr Editor and resize them to fit a photo. Play with the opacity if you want or just use them as is. She makes it incredibly easy to get some custom-made cards ready to print and send.
If you’ve waited this long to make and send holiday cards, this weekend is the weekend to make it happen. You definitely can’t beat the low, low price of 13 cents per card. We definitely recommend Morgan’s excellent tutorial if you need a place to start. Excellent post, Morgan!

Today we added these SketchBook-inspired borders, overlays, and stickers to Pixlr Express for the web, iOS, and Android. This pack will stick around until the end of the year, so give it a shot if you’re feeling artsy.

Designed for both hobbyists and pros, these Autodesk apps are a great way to doodle your way to a simple drawing or an artistic masterpiece.
Hey, Android users: Ready to add some serious style to your photos? We’re happy to announce that the Stylize feature — much loved by iOS users since we introduced it with iOS7 — is now available for Android. You can update your app and start using it any time.
What is Stylize? It’s a way to take your photos and turn them into works of art. See how we took a frankly ho-hum photo of the Golden Gate Bridge we took last week on our trip to the Farallones Islands and turned it into something much more beautiful — almost like a travel poster:
With Stylize, your photos can take on the look of pencil drawings, silkscreen prints, dappled dabs of color, polygonal construction, rough sketches, halftone dots, posterizing, cross-hatching, watercolors, india ink, and lithographs. Don’t forget to put the perfect border on your stylized images. It can make your work of art even artier.
These creative, non-photorealistic effects are something we’ve had requests for over time, and we’re thrilled to be bringing them to the Android version. You’ll find them in the Adjustments menu, and you can use the effects in combination with other effects — even in a collage if you want.
We encourage you to dive in and try it out. In fact, we’d love to see what kinds of art you make with this new feature. Share your Stylized pics on Twitter with the hashtag #pixlr #stylize or just point them directly to us by tweeting to @pixlr. We’ll return the favor and send you one of our own stylized images.
